RALLY: Demand A Workers' Transition

Rally outside UK Parliament: Demand the Government Fund a Workers' Transition

On Wednesday 14th May at 8.30am climate activists and trade unionists are going to gather outside of Parliament to demand a just energy transition is funded at the upcoming Comprehensive Spending Review. Join speakers from across the trade union and climate movement in demanding a Workers' Transition.

This is a critical moment in the UK’s transition away from oil and gas, and we MUST stand with workers.

Grangemouth and Port Talbot are examples of what happens when the Government leaves the transition in the hands of private companies. Crucial, skilled energy workers are being hung out to dry by oil and gas bosses. Bosses who will only ever make decisions in the interests of their shareholders.

We need to send a clear message to Chancellor Rachel Reeves: There is no more time for half-baked plans and capitulation to multi-national companies. We need a funding package and strategy that creates permanent, unionised renewable energy jobs, and supports the country’s oil and gas workers to transition into them.

Together, we can ensure that the transition is not delayed any further by oil & gas industry profits and control, and that we build a fair and more just energy future that prioritises people over profit. No one gets left behind. Join us on May 14th.

This event is being organised by Friends of the Earth Scotland, Platform, Oil Change International, Greenpeace UK, Global Justice Now and #StopRosebank, in collaboration with Unite the Union, RMT and PCS Union.
